What makes a sustainable lifestyle? And what kind of property makes it possible? A place that allows you to provide most of your inputs for yourself, like food, water, and electricity, is how I define a sustainable lifestyle property.

This property has it’s own well, so it checks that box. Plenty of room to grow a garden and raise small livestock, so that box can potentially be checked. There’s plenty enough sun exposure if you’d like to install solar, so another potential box checked there, too. And with an alternative power source, you’ll still have your well pump operable if the lights go out.

Population Centers

Some people prefer to have hundreds of acres between neighbors, while others are more concerned with ease of access. It’s rare to find something that satisfies both.

With a population of a little over 3000, Huntsville is still considered a small city. It’s about 20-30 minutes away. You’ll find an adequate supply of hardware, livestock feed, groceries, and fuel. For more abundant shopping choices, Fayetteville is about 55 minutes away.
